This course is aimed at developing students’ (a) understanding of ICT-based EFL materials development, (b) skills in developing ICT- based EFL materials for Indonesian schools, and (c )positive attitudes towards ICT-based EFL materials development. This course covers the following topics: basic concepts, principles, and procedures of materials development. Students are also involved in developing materials by applying all the concepts, principles, and procedures

At the beginning of this course, students are introduced to terminologies in ICT such as information technologies and communication technologies. Then, they are taught ICT and education relationship covering the dynamics of technologies for education, technology as a change agent in classroom, and trends in ICT and challenges to educational planning. The topic moves on to the utilization of ICT for education including the benefits of ICT, requirements of ICT, obstacles in ICT, positive impacts of ICT-based learning, ICT as curriculum content, and accountability and authentic principals in assessment by using ICT. They also focus on ICT applications and practices in education covering objectives and strategies for effective use of ICTs, learning strategies that support ICT, ICT learning resources/multimedia materials, and ICT integration into the learning system with some examples. Finally, the topic on  Learning Management System consisting of web-based learning concept, blended learning method in web-based learning, synchronous and asynchronous learning, and development of e-learning models

By completing this course, students are expected to be able to show religious, responsible, and academic attitudes and behaviors that can contribute to improving the quality of life in society, nation, and state; master relevant and up-to-date information and communication technology in English learning and research; have the skills to make the right decisions, professionally and responsibly based on the results of the analysis of information and data to be able to choose various alternative solutions independently and in groups in solving the learning problems they face in accordance with the context to obtain the best learning outcomes and optimal student development; and use relevant and up-to-date information and communication technology in English language learning and research.

After carrying out all of the learning activities in this course, at the end, students are expected to be able to: 

  1. understand the concept of ICT-based EFL materials development
  2. understand the concept of skills in developing ICT-based EFL materials for Indonesian schools
  3. understand the concept of positive attitudes towards ICT-based EFL materials development
  4. understand the strategies in developing EFL teaching and learning material
