The Indonesian Language is a personality development course which must be taken by every student of Universitas Sriwijaya. This course is a vital component of the curriculum with several key objectives. Firstly, it aims to empower students to utilize the Indonesian language effectively, enabling them to enrich their scientific thoughts, ideas, and attitudes in various forms of high-quality scientific work. This work should adhere to standards of objectivity, coherence, cohesion, effectiveness, efficiency, and communicativeness, encompassing materials such as research papers, essays, and reports.

Secondly, the course equips students with the critical editing skills necessary to refine and perfect scientific materials. They learn to edit and improve not only their own work but also diverse scientific documents, including manuscripts, articles, and academic papers.

Thirdly, it emphasizes the lifelong development of language proficiency, ensuring that students can continue to utilize the language effectively throughout their lives. This includes using Indonesian for scholarly publications, presentations, professional communications, and even creative written materials.

Lastly, the course employs a communicative and contextual approach, emphasizing discussions, practical exercises, presentations, and projects. Through these activities, students learn to apply their language skills in real-life situations and contexts, enhancing their overall understanding and proficiency. They practice oral communication in discussions and presentations and refine their written communication through practical exercises, all contributing to the attainment of the course objectives across various materials and communication modes.

Based on its Program Learning Outcomes, the students will be able to master the theoretical concepts of Indonesian language and literature that support the teaching of Indonesian language and literature at the elementary and secondary education levels through this course. They will develop decision-making skills that are precise, professional, and responsible, based on the analysis of information and data, allowing them to independently and collaboratively select various solutions to address educational challenges in line with the context to achieve the best learning outcomes and optimal student development.

Additionally, students will acquire the ability to make informed decisions in the context of problem-solving within their field of expertise, drawing from information and data analysis. They will also learn how to document, store, secure, and retrieve data to ensure authenticity and prevent plagiarism.

Furthermore, the course will enable students to appreciate, express, and create journalistic, scientific, literary, and oral tradition works across various genres. Lastly, they will gain proficiency in understanding and analyzing linguistic phenomena from both social and psychological perspectives, applying these concepts to language use and language learning.
