The Language Test Preparation course is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and strategies to excel in various language proficiency tests. Whether they are preparing for standardized exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, or any other language proficiency assessment, this elective course will help them develop the essential language skills, test-taking strategies, and confidence needed to perform at their best. Students are encouraged to actively engage in class, seek feedback, and consistently practice the skills and strategies learned throughout the course by doing a great number of exercises. Successful completion of this elective course will significantly enhance their readiness for language proficiency tests and contribute to their overall language proficiency.

The course outline starts with Introduction to Language Proficiency Tests consisting overview of common language exams, identifying goals and areas of improvement, and an introduction to test format and scoring. Next, listening comprehension is learned including effective listening skills, practices with audio materials, and note-taking techniques and strategies. Reading comprehension focuses on strategies for improving reading skills, practice with reading passages, tips for identifying main ideas and supporting details, making inferences, guessing vocabulary meanings from contexts, etc. Students also focus on improving their writing skills as well as speaking skills through Practice with speaking tasks. At the end of the course, students have to take a simulated English proficiency test (TOEFL Prediction test at any institution/ USEPT Test at Universitas Sriwijaya). 

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to use technological tools to aid their learning and speaking performances such as e-learning unsri (LMS), interactive multimedia (Quizzes Nearpod, etc) and other necessary technological tools. 

Based on the program learning outcome, students can show religious, responsible, and academic attitudes and behaviors that can contribute to improving the quality of life in society, nation and state. Students are expected to be able to master English according to the purpose and context of its use. For general skills, students are expected to have the skills to make the right decisions, professionally and responsibly based on the results of the analysis of information and data to be able to choose various alternative solutions independently and in groups in solving the learning problems they face in accordance with the context to obtain the best learning outcomes and optimal student development. For specific skills, students are able to use English properly, correctly, and fluently according to the context of its use.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  2. Develop strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills required for language exams.
  3. Apply effective time management and test-taking strategies.
  4. Improve vocabulary and grammar mastery.
  5. Enhance critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  6. Gain confidence and reduce test anxiety.
