Workshop on Mathematical Proof concluded NaCoME 2021.

The last series of activities for the National Conference on Mathematics Education is the Workshop on Mathematical Proof which will be held on October 27, 2021, online via zoom conference meeting. The meeting started at 1.30 p.m. The expert in this workshop are Prof. Michael de Villiers.

Prof. Michael de Villers has worked as researcher, mathematics and science teacher at institutions across the world. He studied at the Universities of Stellenbosch, Free State and Cornell University (USA). He taught at the University of Stellenbosch from 1983-1990, and then at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, from which retired from at the end of January 2016. He has subsequently been appointed Professor Extraordinaire in Mathematics Education at the University of Stellenbosch. He was editor of Pythagoras, the research journal of the Association of Mathematics Education of South Africa, and was vice-chair of the SA Mathematics Olympiad from 1997 -2015, but is still involved in the setting of Rounds 1-2. His main research interests are Geometry, Proof, Applications and Modeling, Problem Solving, and the History of Mathematics. His home page is http://dynamicmathematics-learning.com/homepage4.html. He maintains a web page for dynamic geometry sketches at http://dynamic-mathematicslearning.com/JavaGSPLinks.htm. He may be contacted on profmd@mweb.co.za.

At the workshop, he explained that the technology, such as sketchpad, can be used to help teachers in students in proving, such as in geometry. He gave some example that all participants can easily understand.
