AQAS Site Visit at Language and Arts Cluster, FKIP UNSRI

The International Accreditation Institute, AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance) conducted a site visit at the Language and Arts Cluster, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sriwijaya University. The cluster consisted of three porgrams. They are Bachelor in English Education, Bachelor in Indonesian and Literature Education, and Master in Language program. The accreditation process lasted for three days from the 26th – 28th September 2022.

AQAS is an independent institution for quality assurance of a study program and is based in Germany. This international accreditation body assesses the quality standards of universities in the world based on European higher education standards.

The Expert Panels of AQAS

Sriwjaya University Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Anis Saggaff, MSCE. IPU. ASEAN Eng, represented by the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Said, MSC in his speech expressed his gratitude for the presence of the AQAS team and hoped to get the best results for the Language cluster at FKIP UNSRI. On that occasion, Prof. Said also briefly explained about the development of Sriwijaya University which currently has 10 faculties and 1 postgraduate program.

Gala Dinner of AQAS Site Visit

The Dean of FKIP UNSRI, Dr. Hartono, MA explained that in 2020, his team has prepared and completed documents consisting of a Self Evaluation Report and various necessary attachments. Then, in mid-2021, the document was sent to AQAS which is based in Germany. “Alhamdulillah, in 2022 the AQAS visit can be realized and I am very happy for the presence of the AQAS team. Welcome to the city of Palembang and also welcome to the Sriwijaya University campus and we hope for the best results from the visit of the AQAS team for the Language cluster, FKIP Unsri,” said Dr. Hartono in his speech.

Meeting with Language Education Master Program

Meanwhile, AQAS Deputy Director, Ronny Heintze, M.A. in his speech said that he and the AQAS team were very enthusiastic about wanting to know more about the language cluster which consisted of 3 study programs, namely English Language Education Study Program (S-1), Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (S-1), and Language Education Study Program (S-2). He also expressed his gratitude for the extraordinary welcome from Sriwijaya University. He was very happy to be able to meet with leaders, lecturers, students, and stakeholders for 3 full days from 26 to 28 September 2022. According to him, this in-person visit will certainly give a clearer conception for the three study programs under the Languages cluster when compared online.

Meeting with English Education Study Program (Bachelor)

The AQAS team that attended were Prof. Dr. Elsa Clave (Professor of South Asian Language and Culture, University of Harburg, Germany), Prof. Dr. Didi Suherdi (Professor of English Education, Indonesian University of Education, Indonesia), Gunar Yadi, M.A. (Vice Principal, Indonesian School in The Hague, Netherlands as labor market representative), Maria Magdalena Mannai (Magister student at St. Gallen University of Teacher Education, Switzerland as student representative), Ngoc Lan Vi Le, M.A. (AQAS Consultant), and Ronny Heintze, M.A. (AQAS Deputy Director).

On this occasion, Hariswan Putera Jaya, M.Pd. (Coordinator of the Bachelor in English Education) said that the preparations for this accreditation begun a few years ago. Academic and non academic improvements have been made in the program resulted in getting B in 2015 and A in 2021 for BAN-PT Accreditation. He hopes that the program will be accredited unconditionally.

Meetig with Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (Bachelor)

The series of the site visit events started with a brief welcome from the University’s leader, internal expert panel discussions, discussions with Senior University Management and management from the Faculty related to the college/faculty/department and its programs. Then, it proceed with a visit to the Postgraduate Program library, classrooms, and laboratories located at FKIP Ogan. The discussions were also held with lecturers, students, and other relevant stakeholders.
