The laboratory of the mathematics education study program has again conducted one of its programs, the lecture series. In the October 2022 edition, the theme is solid geometry. This fourth lecture series is scheduled for 18 and 25 October 2022. Speakers at the event included Dra. Nyimas Aisyah, Ph.D., Dra. Cecil Hiltrimartin, Ph.D., Weni Dwi Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Sc., and Novika Sukmaningthias, M.Pd.

The first material was delivered by Dra. Nyimas Aisyah, Ph.D. and Novika Sukmaningthias, M.Pd. They started the deepening of the material by emphasizing the understanding of curved solid geometry, that is, if a plane rotated around a straight line in the plane, then the line segments contained in the plane will form a curved plane called a rotating plane. So basically the curved solid is a shape that occurs when a flat shape is rotated around a straight line. There are various types of curved sides, including tubes, cones, and spheres. On this occasion, it is explained about the area and volume of these shapes, and how to obtain them.

Speaker Weni Dwi Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Sc. also invites participants to discuss what are the problems/difficulties of students in learning curved side spaces. Riza Agustiani, a participant from UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, said that the method used in the classroom by using a cut out model of solids would be quite difficult and take a lot of time, so it would be better if it was illustrated.

Dra. Cecil Hiltrimartin, Ph.D. provide discussion material that can be read by participants in preparation for the next lecture series.

41 people participated at this event. These participants are actively discuss and giving question about the topic.

In addition to the explanation of the material by the speakers, this lecture series also invites participants to reflect through filling out quizzes on quizzes as entertainment for participants and liveworksheet.com, where answers from participants will be one of the requirements for them to obtain a certificate of participation as participants.

See you at the next series.
