The Mathematics Education Study Program must succeed in producing quality human resources. One of the efforts that the study program can do is to provide knowledge related to the idea of the “Open Approach” learning method which is defined as a teaching method used by teachers by optimizing interaction activities between students and teachers and between students and other students, which conducted openly using various problem-solving approaches, namely in the form of GENERAL LECTURES for Mathematics Education Students.
According to Dr. Hapizah, S.Pd., M.T., as the Coordinator of the Mathematics Education Study Program, during the Covid-19 pandemic, many complaints were expressed by teachers and parents regarding how to make students learn and interact with each other. Many obstacles experienced how the right approach in conveying material to students. For this reason, students of the Mathematics Education Study Program need to be equipped with knowledge if one day they are in a condition like the one above, namely knowledge of approaches and methods of learning mathematics.
The topic for the general lecture are: “Open Approach in Mathematics Learning”, which will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, virtually.
The main activity of the public lecture started at 09.30 WIB moderated by Weni Dwi Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Sc. with Speaker Dr. Pimpaka Intaros, Lecturer in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, Lampang Rajabhat University. In his presentation entitled Teaching Mathematics through Problem Solving contains 1) Introduction to teaching mathematics through problem solving. 2) 3 levels of teaching mathematics, 3) The importance of teaching mathematics through problem solving, 4) How students construct mathematical concepts, and 5) Learning mathematics through Lesson study and Open approach.
