DESIGN RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION: SOUTH SUMATERA DANCE AS MEANS TO SUPPORT SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON GEOMETRY MATERIALDESIGN RESEARCH IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

Dance is the most obvious subfield of mathematics present in dance, namely geometry. This is supported that geometry through choreography includes connecting movements between poses carried out by groups of dancers. Systematic body movements through dance found hidden values in a mathematical point of view especially in two-dimensional lines and shapes. Dance is attached to help connect more abstract ideas to concrete, fundamental concepts of movement. Through systematic and patterned body movements; The compactness of the dancer’s motion can be recommended for teaching mathematics because it helps students visualize problems and kinetics to understand basic geometric shapes.

On Friday, July 28 2023 Dewi Rawani get officially hold a doctoral degree after dissertation exam at The Unsri FKIP Palembang. Under the guidance of  Prof. Dr. Ratu Ilma Indra Putri, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Zulkardi, M.I.Komp., M.Sc.,and Dr. Ely Susanti, M.Pd, She took the opportunity to explore into mathematics in traditional Sumatera Selatan dance. In her dissertation, she created Learning Design with The RME Approach on Geometry Material using South Sumatra Dance Context for Secondary School Students can teach mathematics in accordance with the theory. It hopes by using real contexts such as the student’s environment, customs, history, and something more familiar to the student, it is possible to have an impact on the student’s competence. Math problems can be embedded in various contexts such as traditional South Sumatran dance.
